Or… camp all weekend!

Dear fellow Voyageur Scouter,

On behalf of the Council Key 3, we’re thrilled that you’ve registered for our first Voyageur Scouter Expo at Camp Opemikon this coming weekend.  We’re excited to provide an opportunity for you to learn new skills, find some inspiration for the upcoming Scouting year, connect with Scouters and Scouts Canada staff, and have some fun along the way!

Registration is nearly closed, so we’re putting the final touches on the program and logistics.  You will receive a final communication during the upcoming week before we arrive, but here’s what we can share now.

Transportation

Because of high interest in camping overnight, requests for shared transportation were lower than we anticipated. Therefore, a single bus with 46 seats will depart from Scouts Canada HQ (1345 Baseline Rd, Ottawa, ON K2C 0A7) with no planned stops along the way. Coincidentally, the majority of requests for bus transportation came from registrants within a 10-15 minutes drive of HQ. The exact pickup and drop-off times will be communicated later this week once they are confirmed by the bus company.

For everyone else, we strongly encourage carpooling/ridesharing to Camp Opemikon, whether on Friday evening or Saturday morning. This is both to optimize the limited parking facilities at camp, but also to be consistent with our environmental stewardship.

If your attendance at the event depends on bus transportation, please fill in the form below to update your registration, or to request a refund.

Meals

Together with the Camp Opemikon Rover Crew, we’re very pleased to offer Saturday breakfast (for overnight campers), lunch, plus morning and afternoon snacks.

For those who haven’t camped at Opemikon yet, this is a great chance to see how the catering options work in the dining hall for your upcoming Group reservations. Dinner on Saturday evening (pizza delivery) will be provided for overnight campers after the buses have departed.

This means that food on Friday evening and Sunday morning is self-catered. Please eat before your arrival or prepare to cook for yourself on Friday. Likewise, you’re welcome to make your own breakfast or you can get something on your return trip home.

Accommodations

There has been high interest in staying overnight at Camp Opemikon!  You will be camping in the large Brownsea and Clements fields, very close to the parking lots with plenty of room to stretch out!  You will need to provide your own gear appropriate to the forecasted weather, but as mentioned above, only Friday dinner and Sunday breakfast will be your personal responsibility.

Most importantly, let’s keep the Scouter networking going before, during and after the formal event at camp!
